I’ve tried pushing Kodak Tri-X 400 before to ISO1600 and to be honest the results weren’t great. However, that was more to do with yours truly and miscommunication with the lab than how I shot it!
This time round I’ve home developed and scanned my own film which I’ve had in the camera for a couple of weeks and whilst the results aren’t ‘that bad’ there’s still lots of room for improvement both in the way I shoot, the way I develop my film and the way I scan and edit the files.
I was trying to get a few photographs of a recent karting event my Daughter did, but in truth the venue was too dark and the weather outside too crap to get a really decent exposure without slowing the shutter to what would have been too slow to capture go-karting!
I do like the effect pushed Tri-X gives and of course being shot at 1600 means I get a bit more flexibility for shooting at a faster shutter speed in the grey, miserable winter conditions we seem to endure here in the UK!
It’s definitely an improvement on where I was 12 months ago with the roll I pushed but most certainly nowhere I want to be in terms of any of it, so a long learning curve ahead for me.
Here’s a few other frames from the rest of the roll, shot on a particularly grey misty day close by to where I live.
All Photos shot on the Leica M6 with Voigtlander 50mm f1.2 or Jupiter 8 f2
