Woodland Photography with a Ricoh GR3, you cannot be serious?!
Well, I thought it would be fun to try and to be honest, I’m quite happy with the results from a little point and shoot wander!
The Ricoh GR3 is a street photographers camera – or so they say. The GR series have become a bit of a cult classic over the years. Small, lightweight, feature packed and incredibly simple to use – so why would you use it for woodland photography…. well why not?!
The image quality is really, very good. Originally I picked mine up to use alongside my Leica M6 film camera, thinking it gives me the best of both worlds for shooting digital alongside film & it’s small enough to fit in a pocket for easy carry.
But in truth, the GR3 is a much better camera than I really give it credit for – its diminutive size certainly belies its abilities. OK, so it’s a fixed 28mm focal length so not ideal for every situation, but on the whole it’s more than adequate as a serious compact camera. And you know what, I’ll definitely be bringing the little GR3 along on more woodland walks.
Alongside shooting in the woods with the Ricoh GR3, I’ve also processed the images a little differently too…. not sure I’d stay with this sort of processing, but hey, it was a fun exercise!
Do you like the editing or should woodland photography be more traditional? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and using a Ricoh GR3 for woodland photography.
