Happy New Year to you. 2020 has been, well frankly shit for so many people all over the world…let’s hope 2021 improves dramatically for many people.
On a personal front 2021 proved an interesting year, finally I found a photography niche I enjoy and one I want to build on for the future now.
But, it did prove to become a confusing one. I’ve accumulated a lot more camera gear than I ultimately need and appear to spend more time thinking about what gear to use than actually getting out there.
The Challenge
The challenge for me in 2021 is to strip it all away. Going back to basics if you like. A single camera, a single lens and only editing in a basic manner.
I want to strip away the confusion of what lens to take when, what camera to use and sitting there wondering how to edit the photo in front of me when I’m sat in front of the screen.
My gear for 2021

1. Leica M10-P Camera
2. Leica Summicron 50mm f2
3. Basic Editing (colour or Black and White)
4. My trusty Manfrotto tripod
5. CPL/ND filters
(I will keep my Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 color skopar as a back up in case of breakage, damage etc but not for shooting with).
I think some of the accumulated gear I have will be moved on. There is little point in keeping it if I am going to commit to change.
For sure there will be times when I feel the need for something different such as a longer or wider focal length or challenges when I feel colour would be more beneficial, but the exercise is to remove the barrier of confusion and begin to embrace the passion in a more simple way.
I’ll keep the blog updated about how I feel about it, I’m looking forward to the challenge.
